For users of the excellent Octopress blogging engine, this simple Firefox add-on creates a context-menu item allowing you to quickly generate pre-formatted blockquotes from selected text in a web page.

Usage is simple: after installing Bloctoquote in Firefox, select the text that you want to quote and right-click to call up the context menu. Choose Create Blockquote and the add-on will generate a pre-formatted snippet, including the page link and page title, which will then be copied to the system clipboard -- just paste it into your favourite text editor and go!

You will find that there's a "Source" placeholder in the pasted text. Replace this as necessary (e.g., with the author's name), but do note that if you remove it, then Octopress' blockquote module will not display any source link or title, either.

Please note that this add-on is third-party software and is not supported by, affiliated with, or even known to exist by the good folks that created and maintain Octopress. I wrote it to make my life easier, and wanted to share it with you.
