This add-on use regular expression templates to filter a text when it is pasted or copied.
You may paste & filter when you paste an url modified in the url address or when you paste text modified by a regular expression in a form field in Firefox. Filters may be applied to paste in the address field or in a form field of a web page.
You may also copy & filter to copy some text from a web page and want to use it modified by a regular expression in another application.
Example: Suppose I want to paste the host url address (https://addons.mozilla.org) in the address bar, when you have copied any link location (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/filtered-clipboard/).
Open the Filtered Clipboard options and in the substitute pane, enter the following:
- set name: host,
- shortcut enter a regular expression:
- string to substitute:
- Url Address: checked
- Shortkey: a
Close the options, and copy a link location from the address bar.
Now, you may call the new filter with the mouse. Right click in the address bar and select Paste filtered > Host.
Or still in the address bar, you may use the new filter with the keyboard and simply press Ctrl+Shift+A.
Note (2015.03.19): Since Firefox 36.0.1 the inserted url is not detected unless one insert a space (for example) using the keyboard. Version 1.4.9 addressed this by redirecting the page to the inserted url. This programatic redirection can be blocked if not needed.
Note (2017.06.20) The webextension version of this addon is Skim the clipboard.
